Qatar Airways expands capacity and cargo offerings at its Vienna hub

Qatar Airways Cargo has announced the resumption of its dedicated cargo flights to Vienna Airport, further expanding its presence in the European logistics market. As part of a comprehensive network expansion, the Gulf airline is increasingly relying on the use of Boeing 777 freighters, which will also provide additional capacity on the route to Warsaw.

This strategic decision aims to handle the growing flow of goods on the key trade routes between Europe and the Middle East and Asia more efficiently. Vienna will once again serve as an important hub for air freight in the Central and Eastern European region.

In parallel with its cargo business, the airline is intensifying its passenger service. Connections between its hub in Doha and Vienna will be increased to seven weekly flights, guaranteeing daily service to the Austrian capital. This increased frequency allows the airline to optimally utilize the belly cargo capacity of its passenger aircraft for transporting goods. Through the Doha hub, exporters from the Vienna region will thus gain improved access to the airline's global route network, which encompasses over 170 destinations worldwide.

The expansion is part of a larger growth plan for summer 2026. From mid-July, Qatar Airways also plans to reactivate other key routes in its global network: the Helsinki route is scheduled to resume on July 15, followed by Tokyo-Haneda on July 16. Industry experts see these steps as a response to stable demand in the international logistics sector and the increasing need for fast supply chains for high-value industrial goods and e-commerce products. The Boeing 777F, which will be used on the cargo routes, is considered one of the most efficient aircraft in its class, with a capacity of approximately 103 tons.

Additional market analyses demonstrate that Qatar Airways Cargo is consolidating its market position through fleet modernization and the expansion of digital booking systems. Vienna Airport benefits from this development through increased tonnage and a stronger role as a logistics hub for pharmaceuticals and sensitive technical components. The seamless connection to Hamad International Airport in Doha, considered one of the world's most modern cargo hubs, further strengthens the security of supply for international trade goods. The airline thus underscores its commitment to responding flexibly to capacity bottlenecks in global trade.
