The private railway company Regiojet will operate more frequently between Vienna and Budapest from April 4, 2024. The company announced that there will be eight daily train pairs in the future.

Regiojet has been offering rail connections from Vienna Central Station to Budapest and Prague, among others, for several years. In addition, long-distance bus connections are maintained that also connect Vienna-Schwechat Airport with destinations in Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Some Italian destinations can also be reached by bus from the Südtiroler Platz bus station (main train station).

Last year, 724.000 passengers were counted on the Prague-Budapest route, an increase of 11 percent compared to 2022. The high demand, especially for the Vienna-Budapest section, has prompted the railway to increase capacity for this section from the original two to four connections per day in each direction, the company said. Departures from Vienna to Budapest at 7:34 a.m., 10:27 a.m., 14:34 p.m. and 17:27 p.m. and from Budapest to Vienna at 7:45 a.m., 10:58 a.m., 14:45 p.m. and 18:45 p.m. represent both tourists and regular travelers happy. The journey time is 2 hours and 31 minutes.

“We believe that by increasing the frequency of services at attractive times and with high quality services at friendly prices, RegioJet trains will become the first choice for traveling between these metropolises. Passengers can look forward to a high standard of service, including a range of free services such as coffee, water, internet access and an entertainment portal. There will also be an exclusive in-flight service with a large selection of in-flight menus,” said Jakub Svoboda, Managing Director of Regiojet.
