A bomb threat was found in the lavatory of a United Airlines Embraer 175 aircraft, registration N753YX. About 20 minutes before landing in Burlington, the pilot informed air traffic control about the threat to the regional jet.

Republic Airlines was en route from New York-Newark to Burlington with flight number UA3613. Shortly before the landing approach, a note was found on a toilet of the Embraer 175 threatening that I had a bomb on board.

The pilots immediately informed air traffic control. The N753YX landed safely at Burlington Airport. The regional jet was then directed to a remote location on the site and the US security authorities began their official duties. First, the risk situation was carefully evaluated.

Burlington Airport was temporarily closed while authorities checked the plane, and the 65 passengers were released from the plane after a few hours. The airport reopened around 19:30 p.m. local time. Fortunately, no dangerous objects or even a bomb were found. The prosecuting authorities now want to determine the originator of the written threat. This could result in a long prison sentence.

A Republic Airways spokesman said of the incident: “Out of sheer caution, the plane taxied to a remote location in Burlington where a precautionary security check of the plane was conducted without finding anything. We would like to thank the local emergency services for their quick and professional action and everyone on board for their patience and understanding".
