On April 21, 2024, the de Havilland Dash 8-400 with the registration LN-WDT, operated by Widerøe, had to make a return landing at Bergen Airport because there was smoke in the area of a turboprop engine.

The aircraft was supposed to head for Kristiansand under flight number WF591. However, engine problems occurred shortly after takeoff. According to official information, smoke was also seen coming from one of the two engines. An immediate return landing in Bergen was initiated. The 54 passengers and four crew members were able to leave the LN-WDT safely and uninjured.

As a precautionary measure, the fire brigade and rescue workers were deployed. Whether there was actually an engine fire, as some passengers claim, is part of the aircraft accident investigation that has already been initiated. In any case, a spokesman for airport operator Avinor confirmed that smoke entered the cabin. For this reason, the passengers would have been offered a medical examination.
