An analysis by Swiss Bankers based on the locations where debit and credit cards were used for payments and cash withdrawals has shown that the Swiss were more likely to spend their holidays in classic holiday destinations in 2023.

Around 25 percent of tourist card payments were made within the country. Abroad, France came in first, followed by Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain and the USA. The neighboring country Austria came in 13th place and accounted for 1,8 percent of Swiss card spending.

The study also comes to the conclusion that Swiss people visited Japan, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines more frequently in the previous year. By the way, Greenland took last place in the statistics.
