The strike by security staff and Lufthansa ground employees at Frankfurt am Main Airport means that there will be no regular flight operations on March 7, 2024. Many providers have already canceled their connections as a precaution.

Due to the fact that the Lufthansa ground staff are on strike, initially only the airlines of the Kranich Group and those airlines that have commissioned Lufthansa with passage ground handling would be involved. However, the Verdi union in Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main is also calling on security employees to stop work. This means that, according to Fraport AG, no officially prescribed security checks are possible outside the transit area.

In other words: Travelers cannot be checked in Frankfurt am Main and without this, entering the security area is officially prohibited. Transfer passengers, provided they come from the Schengen area, do not have to be checked again. Fraport AG appears to be setting up emergency staffing for connecting passengers coming from a non-Schengen destination. However, travelers who are affected by this are strongly advised not to leave the security area, as there is no turning back due to the lack of open control lines.

According to Fraport AG, people who want to fly from Frankfurt on March 7, 2024 should not come to the airport at all because the “Siko” lines will be closed. This means you cannot board the planes. Some flight connections, especially those with many connecting passengers on board, should still operate. In some cases, planes also leave Frankfurt Airport empty in order to be able to transport passengers in the other direction.

Affected passengers are strongly advised to contact their airline and in particular to discuss possible alternative transport. Since there is also a strike on the railways, this could become quite complicated. The GDL calls on the train drivers to go on strike. In addition to Frankfurt am Main, security employees in Hamburg have also been called on to stop work. The airport there announced that there will be no regular flight operations on March 7, 2024. Passengers should not arrive because all departures have been canceled.
