Corendon Airlines, a Turkish-Dutch-Maltese airline, has presented its summer flight schedule for 2026 and is planning a significant capacity expansion. With 20 percent year-on-year growth and an increased focus on the German-speaking market, as well as Poland and the UK, the airline is positioning itself for an ambitious growth strategy. The company, which reports carrying around 10 million passengers annually, is focusing in particular on strengthening its bases in Germany and expanding its flight offerings to popular holiday destinations.
Corendon Airlines' 2026 summer flight schedule envisions a consistent focus on core routes. Christian Hein, Head of Sales & Marketing at Corendon Airlines, explained that the growth strategy will be strengthened primarily by double-digit capacity growth. Particular attention is being paid to the four German bases in Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, and Nuremberg, where two aircraft will be stationed each, and four in Düsseldorf. This is intended to give travelers greater flexibility in vacation planning.
A key target of the expansion is the metropolis of Antalya on the Turkish Riviera. From all 19 departure airports in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland that Corendon Airlines serves, there will be at least three weekly flights to Antalya by summer 2026. Services will be further intensified from the German bases: three daily flights are planned from Düsseldorf, while flights will be offered twice daily from Cologne/Bonn, Hanover, and Nuremberg.
In addition to expanding its service to Antalya, the airline is also announcing new routes. A brand new addition to its flight schedule is the connection between Münster/Osnabrück Airport and Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete. Flight frequencies to other popular destinations will also be increased. The connection from Nuremberg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne/Bonn to Hurghada, Egypt, will be increased from three to an average of five flights per week. Some routes that were only offered seasonally in summer 2025 will in future be available throughout the entire summer season. These include the routes to Hurghada from Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart, Linz, and Vienna, as well as the connections from Hanover to Las Palmas and Fuerteventura, from Nuremberg to Fuerteventura and Palma de Mallorca, and from Düsseldorf to Palma de Mallorca.
The aviation market in transition
Corendon Airlines' growth strategy fits into a dynamic picture of European air traffic. After the restrictions of recent years, the air traffic market continues to recover. According to recent reports from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), demand for air travel, particularly in the leisure segment, has increased significantly. Consumers are showing a high willingness to travel, which is leading to competition among airlines. Many airlines, including low-cost carriers, are responding by expanding capacity and launching new routes.
Experts see Corendon Airlines' expansion as a logical step. By stationing aircraft at key German airports and working closely with tour operators and travel agencies, the airline can consolidate its market position. The decision to focus on proven and popular routes reduces risk and enables more efficient aircraft utilization.
The focus on the German-speaking hub is understandable from an economic perspective. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are among the largest source markets for European holiday tourism. Turkey, in particular, has become a very popular destination again in recent years. Antalya, as a tourist center on the Turkish Riviera, attracts millions of travelers annually, providing a solid foundation for the planned increase in frequency. The destination's geographical proximity and attractive value for money also contribute to the high demand.
Growth beyond borders
In addition to strengthening its offerings in German-speaking countries, Corendon Airlines is also pursuing an expansion strategy in other European markets. Particular attention is being paid to Poland, where the airline intends to further expand its route network and significantly increase capacity. New routes are intended to complement the existing network and meet the growing travel demand in Central and Eastern Europe.
The decision to increase its presence in Poland underscores the strategic importance of this market for the airline. The country has developed into a significant travel source market in recent years. With rising incomes and a growing willingness to travel among the population, Poland offers great potential for airlines. Corendon Airlines thus joins a group of airlines systematically expanding their offerings for Polish travelers.
Corendon Airlines' expansion thus reflects the general recovery and growth of the global aviation industry. The airline is adapting to changing market conditions and investing specifically in regions with high demand for leisure tourism. The announced capacity increases, new routes, and increased frequencies are a clear signal to the market and travelers that Corendon Airlines intends to further consolidate its position as a major player in the European leisure airline segment. It remains to be seen how this ambitious strategy will fare in the coming months.
Challenges and Outlook
Despite positive forecasts and ambitious plans, the aviation industry continues to face numerous challenges. Fluctuations in jet fuel prices, regulatory requirements, and geopolitical uncertainties can impact airlines' operating costs and profitability. Competition in the low-cost segment is also fierce, forcing airlines to continuously optimize their cost structures.
A focus on collaboration with tour operators is a crucial factor in this context. A close relationship with these partners enables the airline to ensure high utilization of its flights and minimize the risk of empty seats. The high demand for package holidays, especially to the classic holiday destinations in Turkey, Greece, Spain, and Egypt, plays into Corendon Airlines' hands. The airline can thus benefit from a stable customer segment while simultaneously expanding its own sales channels.
Corendon Airlines' strategy for 2026 thus appears to be a combination of bold expansion and risk-conscious focus. By strengthening its presence at its German bases and expanding its route network in key markets such as Poland, the airline is positioning itself to benefit from the continued growth in leisure tourism. The success of these plans will largely depend on how efficiently the airline can utilize its new capacities and respond to unforeseen market developments.
