Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) is expected to receive its first Airbus A350-900 in September of this year. Carsten Spohr, CEO of parent company Lufthansa Group, announced this more precise timeline on Tuesday. Previously, only a late summer or early fall delivery date had been discussed. The new aircraft will be equipped with the so-called "Swiss Senses" cabin, the details of which have not yet been fully released to the public.
The introduction of the Airbus A350-900 represents an important step for Swiss in the modernization of its long-haul fleet. The aircraft is considered efficient and comfortable and will enable Swiss to further enhance its long-haul offerings. The airline has not yet communicated the exact configuration of the "Swiss Senses" cabin or the routes on which the new aircraft type will initially be used. However, it is expected that the A350-900 will gradually replace older aircraft types in Swiss's long-haul fleet.
The Lufthansa Group had previously announced the introduction of the Airbus A350 at its various subsidiaries. In addition to Swiss, other airlines within the Group are also expected to benefit from the advantages of this modern aircraft type. Carsten Spohr's precise delivery date for the first A350 to Swiss underscores the importance of this step for the Swiss airline and the entire Lufthansa Group. Observers expect that the new "Swiss Senses" cabin interior will place special emphasis on the passenger travel experience.
