A good month after moving from Tegel to the new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, the Lufthansa Group draws an initial positive balance: the airlines' relocation went according to plan. The operational processes at BER would also function smoothly when the traffic volume is currently low.
The Group's airlines currently offer around 38 percent of all flights at BER. Of a total of 1.700 departures and arrivals in November, around 650 were made by the Lufthansa Group - that is over 400 flights more than the second largest and more than 500 flights more than the third largest operator at the location. Eurowings in particular has positioned itself strongly in the weak environment caused by the crisis. With around 300 BER connections in November, the Lufthansa subsidiary took the lead in an individual comparison of airlines. Eurowings heads for Cologne / Bonn, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart at least three times a day. Another focus of the airline are connections to the Canary Islands. Eurowings alone will have completed over 1.200 flights to and from BER by the end of the year, according to the company.
“The airlines of the Lufthansa Group connect the German capital reliably and safely with the world. We are proud that Berliners and Brandenburgers have trusted us for decades. We will remain a partner of the region in the future and will expand our services from Berlin as soon as possible after the crisis. Because we know that there is a great longing to travel, ”said Harry Hohmeister, member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.
Five of the Group's airlines currently fly to BER - Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings. Air Dolomiti will not include BER in its flight program until 2021.
