Despite the Omicron virus variant, the Tui travel group is expecting strong summer business and wants to repay the first part of the state aid.
The company announced on Tuesday in Hanover that it plans to return aid funds from the Corona crisis amounting to around 700 million euros on April 1st when presenting its figures for the first winter quarter. After the existential setback in the early days of the Corona crisis, the group sees a clear stabilization. "Demand for travel is high across all markets. The way out of the pandemic is becoming increasingly clear," said CEO Fritz Joussen. In the first financial quarter to the end of December, Tui generated sales of 2,4 billion euros, around five times as much as in the first Corona winter a year earlier. The bottom line is that the group was able to roughly halve its seasonal loss from 780 million to 384 million euros.
