At the end of last week, 24 new apprentices started their vocational training at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. Austria's largest airport is currently training 74 young people.

On September 1, 2023, a new chapter in life began for 24 young people, because they had their first day at Flughafen Wien AG or its subsidiaries. A total of 74 apprentices are currently being trained in the company in the professions of electrical and building technology, automotive and commercial vehicle technology, metal technology, sanitary, ventilation and heating technology and in IT, including in its own training workshop, with international exchange programs, foreign language courses and many more other offers. Apprentices at Vienna Airport also have the opportunity to complete their Matura parallel to their apprenticeship. In this way, Vienna Airport is already providing the skilled workers of tomorrow.

"We are already training tomorrow's specialists today: Building systems are becoming increasingly complex and this requires well-trained experts. Professions such as electrical and building technology and ventilation and heating technology are therefore particularly promising job profiles. It is particularly gratifying that two-thirds of our apprentices passed the previous school year with excellent results,” say the board members of Flughafen Wien AG, Julian Jäger and Dr. Günther Ofner, proud of the young airport employees.

As part of the apprenticeship training at Vienna Airport, the young people not only learn everything about the airport, but also receive extensive specialist training with one fixed training day per week, on which the specialist needs of the respective professional field are individually addressed. Possible apprenticeships at the airport are electrical and building technicians, automotive and commercial vehicle technology, metal technology, sanitary, ventilation and heating technology as well as in the IT sector. The airport also provides the young people with additional qualifications: regular seminars in the field of personality development, English courses and math coaching are on the program. Apprentices at Vienna Airport also have the opportunity to complete their Matura parallel to their apprenticeship. A special highlight is an exchange program with international airports, which apprentices can complete as part of their training.
