On November 6, 2024, Vienna Airport was awarded the Grand Sustainability Award for Logistics by the BVL Federal Association of Logistics Austria.
The award recognizes the airport's consistent commitment to energy efficiency and climate protection. Particular emphasis was placed on the 40% reduction in energy consumption and the airport's carbon neutrality since 2. Since 2023, the airport has been pursuing a comprehensive sustainability strategy that includes, among other things, ten photovoltaic systems, a fleet of around 2011 electric vehicles and an electric fast-charging station. The award was presented at a gala evening in Vienna, and Vienna Airport prevailed in the category of logistics projects that set new standards in sustainability.
Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, emphasized the importance of achieving environmental goals in line with economic goals. The airport's innovative measures not only lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, but also to a significant reduction in operating costs. The company is now pursuing the goal of reducing CO2 emissions to net zero by 2033.
