The low-cost airline Wizz Air, whose Maltese subsidiary maintains a base in Vienna, will no longer fly between the capitals of Austria and the United Arab Emirates. The route has since been completely removed from its reservation system.
It was recently announced that the group of companies will close its Abu Dhabi-based branchHowever, it was also announced at the time that selected routes between European cities and the UAE capital would continue to be served. For passengers, the change would be that Wizz Air Hungary or Wizz Air Malta would be the operating carrier in the future.
As far as Vienna is concerned, however, the Abu Dhabi flights are over. They were quietly discontinued. Wizz Air has also already removed the route from its reservation system. This means that this route shares the same fate as the Dubai flights, which the company also discontinued some time ago, at least from the Austrian capital.
However, Vienna will continue to be connected to Abu Dhabi without a transfer, as competitor Etihad Airways continues to serve this route.
