As of now, arriving passengers at Vienna International Airport can take a free RT-PCR test. This does not take place in the test center of the airport, but in the Bipa branch in the arrival area of Terminal 3, one kit per person can be picked up at the cash desk. The head of Rewe Austria corporate communications confirmed this to Aviation Direct.

In the federal capital Vienna, people who live or work here have had the opportunity for a few weeks obtain free RT-PCR tests in Bipa branches. The gargle tests are completed independently under the guidance of a web app. The samples can then be handed in to the Rewe-Austria subsidiaries Bipa, Billa, Billa Plus, Penny Markt and at BP petrol stations in drop boxes. The results are then sent in English and German by the Life Brain Laboratory by email.

What is new is that travelers arriving at Vienna Airport can purchase such a kit in the Bipa branch in the arrivals area of Terminal 3 can pick up free of charge. The sample can only be thrown in in Vienna. Group spokesman Paul Pöttschacher said: “At the airport, everyone arriving at the airport can pick up 1 pack of free PCR gurgle tests from BIPA. A delivery is only possible at Rewe Group locations in Vienna ”.

The free test can be used to enter Austria

The current entry regulation basically stipulates that a negative antigen or PCR result must be presented. However, there is a small exception for people who have a place of residence in Austria, because they can catch up on the test within 48 hours. It doesn't matter if Stations of pharmacies and countries, private options e.g. in Airport test center or free PCR kit from Rewe Group is being used. Regardless of this: Unless you fall under an exception, a ten-day quarantine currently has to be observed. After the first test, which has to be presented on entry or has to be made up for within 48 hours in Austria, you can test yourself out of isolation on the fifth day after entry at the earliest. Both PCR and antigen are recognized for this purpose.

How long this situation will last is completely unclear. State Secretary Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) announced this week that with the Green Pass quarantine will no longer be required in the future, but he could not give a specific date for a new entry regulation. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) evaded journalists' questions in this direction on Friday and could also not name a date for the end of the quarantine. In any case, he wants to open the country first and only use the green passport when entering the country with a delay. The professional representation of the travel agencies demands a clear statement from the federal government from which day it will be possible to enter or return home to Austria without quarantine.
