The Romanian airline Animawings, which currently only has one Airbus A320, intends to grow strongly in the next few years. Up to 12 A220s will serve as operating resources.

It was recently announced that the carrier wants to expand with the help of aircraft manufactured by Airbus Canada. The first two units of this type should to be launched before midsummer 2024. Animawings wants to take over up to 12 copies over the next few years. However, the company does not only want to offer ACMI and charter services, but also wants to increasingly fly on its own account.

The Greek Star Alliance member Aegean Airlines was involved in the Romanian airline for a while. This also meant that Animawings flew a lot on behalf of the Greeks. In the meantime, Aegean Airlines has dissolved its stake. The Romanian travel group Memento is now the sole owner.

Animawings' core business is currently operating charter flights for tour operators. It also flies for other airlines under wet lease agreements. Due to the fact that the fleet is currently quite small, Airbus A320s operated by Dan Air are also on wet lease on the tourist routes offered in Romania.

Animawings has confirmed that it will also enter the scheduled business outside of the warm water routes with the help of the Airbus A220 fleet, which is to be built up from this year. A special focus is also placed on high-volume routes within Romania. But you don't want to look at the maps yet and the questions about which routes you want to fly and when you should leave are covered. In any case, they want to concentrate on tourist routes in the summer of 2024 and only start building the non-tourist route network in autumn 2024. The only thing that is certain at the moment is that they want to set course for Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
