Wizz Air is introducing a new feature in its mobile app called "My Journey," allowing passengers to manage their flights in real time. This new tool aims to provide travelers with stress-free navigation throughout their journey, particularly in the event of unexpected disruptions. The launch comes as European air traffic is expected to grow by a further five percent year-on-year this summer, exceeding pre-COVID levels, according to Eurocontrol.
In light of potential disruptions beyond the control of airlines – such as insufficient air traffic control capacity in some parts of Europe or extreme weather conditions – "My Journey" is designed to provide passengers with important information and support directly on their smartphone. In addition to notifications via other channels (calls, texts, emails), travelers now receive information on flight status, check-in details, boarding time, and gate number via their smartphone. The feature also provides immediate information on eligibility for meal vouchers or hotel accommodations and allows passengers to redeem rewards (meals, hotel accommodations, compensation) directly within the app. Furthermore, alternative travel options such as rebooking, refunds, or accepting a new flight suggested by the airline can be selected stress-free.
Boglarka Spak, Head of Customer Experience at Wizz Air, explained that it's not just about flying, but about staying in control during frustrating moments. "My Journey is the ultimate solution for our passengers – it allows them to take control of their travel experience, no matter what." This is another step in the "Customer First Compass" initiative, which is based on four key pillars: product, price, service, and communication. Wizz Air has committed to investing €14 billion in improving every customer touchpoint to ensure that punctuality, affordability, innovation, and service characterize every journey.
With over 35 million downloads of the Wizz Air app on Apple, Google, and Huawei platforms, the update is expected to significantly improve the passenger experience. "My Journey" will be rolled out gradually from July 8 and is designed to optimize the airport experience, support the entire journey, and help both frequent and first-time flyers find their way around, saving time and energy. Wizz Air, which operates a fleet of 237 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, carried 2024 million passengers in 62,8. The company has already been recognized as one of the world's safest airlines and was named Airline of the Year by the Air Transport Awards in 2019 and 2023.
