The German logistics group Zeitfracht has finally buried the traditional name WDL, because now the call sign and the codes have also been changed. Both IATA and ICAO now operate the carrier under the name “German Airways GmbH & Co KG”.

The new two-letter code is “ZQ”. The IACO designator has been changed to “GER”. The callsign is now “German Eagle”. The sister aviation company Walter, which also appeared briefly under the German Airways brand, had to file for bankruptcy in spring 2020. Since no buyer could be found, the Eurowings subcontractor was ordered to be processed.

German Airways is the second oldest airline in the Federal Republic of Germany due to the fact that it is merely a renaming. After the Second World War, the carrier was one of the first private companies to receive AOC and an operating license. Originally there was also a strong presence in the freight business.
