In May 2024, 2.772.182 passengers used Zurich Airport, an increase of 9% compared to the same period last year. For the first time since the crisis, passenger numbers exceeded the 2019 level, with an increase of 2% compared to May 2019.

This increase is partly due to the Whitsun and Corpus Christi holidays, which fell in May instead of June this year. On 17 May, more than 100.000 passengers travelled through Zurich Airport in a single day for the first time. Local passengers numbered 1.975.161, while transfer passengers accounted for 29% or 791.352 of the total. Aircraft movements increased by 7% year-on-year to 23.762 takeoffs and landings, representing 97% of 2019 levels. The average number of passengers per flight decreased slightly to 132, and seat load factor decreased by one percentage point to 79%.

In the freight sector, 37.382 tonnes were handled in May, an increase of 23% compared to the same month last year, but 2% less than in May 2019.
