Star Alliance member Croatia Airlines has signed an official letter of intent to acquire six A220s from Airbus. This is to be further developed into a formal purchase agreement in the coming weeks.
Neither Airbus nor the airline have commented on whether it is the 100 or 300 variant. From circles of Croatia Airlines it can be heard that there should be three pieces each and the airline will also secure options for further copies. The first six copies are not a "real" new order.
In the past, Croatia Airlines has converted an order originally placed for the A319 into the A320neo. Now you want to convert them to A220. The airline intends the fleet switch completely to the regional jets of Airbus Canada. The conversion will take place over a period of four years from the first delivery. It is likely that the A220 order will be increased at a later date.
