The airline Air Tanzania has had to partially suspend flight operations because of technical problems with the P&W engines in the Airbus A220 fleet. About half of the machines of this type have to stay on the ground until they can be fixed.
"In order to continue to ensure the supply of our customers, we will reduce the number of flights to ensure the availability of the aircraft. This decision is temporary as our technical teams are working in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations," the carrier said in a statement.
Those A220s that are powered by the PW1524G-3 are affected. Air Tanzania currently has four A220-300s. However, only two units were in regular use this year. To make matters worse, the availability of spare parts is currently limited. The delivery times are extremely long. Air Baltic also had to for this reason temporarily shorten the flight plan.
