A350: Airbus can no longer downplay paint problems

Qatar Airways was the first airline in the world to draw attention to possible quality problems with the long-haul Airbus A350. In public, however, this was downplayed both by the manufacturer and by other operators. It has now become known that other operators have also sent complaints to Airbus.

According to Reuters, Finnair, Lufthansa, Air Caraibes Atlantique, Etihad Airways and Cathay Pacific found the same problem and complained to the manufacturer accordingly. The paint is peeling off, which even reveals the copper anti-lighting grille under the hull paint.

It is currently assumed that the problem is not relevant to safety, but rather affects the appearance of the mostly very young machines. Qatar Airways sees it differently and emphasizes that it and another airline, which was not specified in detail, have found that the cabling of the machines could also be damaged. This could possibly occur in bad weather.

Unlike in the past, Airbus now acknowledges that there is "early surface wear" on the A350. Work to ensure that the problem is resolved as soon as possible. Among other things, it is envisaged that the copper wire type could be changed.
