The British airline Jet2 plans to resume flight operations from July 1, 2021. The carrier actually wanted to be back in the air a long time ago, but the restart was postponed due to the unclear situation regarding the travel lights of the UK government.

The low-cost airline, which specializes in quiet routes, did not save in various media broadcasts with criticism of the decisions of the British government. Most recently, the fact that Portugal was moved to the so-called amberlist despite the low number of infections caused criticism in the airline and tourism industry. In Malta, too, there is increasing questioning why a stay in the Mediterranean country still triggers quarantine when returning to the UK.

The UK traffic light is a pain because even vaccinated people have to present a negative test when staying in a green state. If the area is on the amber list, a quarantine must also be started. If the state is listed in red, entry is only possible under certain circumstances and then combined with isolation in a hotel. All costs for tests and / or quarantine are to be borne by yourself.

Jet2 will initially only serve a few routes, as most of the destinations are on the Amber or Red list. The company assumes that there is little demand for vacation spots that trigger a quarantine on return.

The following states are currently on the amber list of the United Kingdom: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece (including islands), Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

The following countries are on the green list: Australia, Brunei, the Falkland Islands, the Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Iceland, Israel, New Zealand, Singapore, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands as well as the island of St. Helena.
