In the Federal Republic of Germany one wants to copy the free rapid antigen tests already practiced in Austria with modifications. From March 1, 2021, residents of Germany will be able to have themselves tested free of charge in selected pharmacies, among others.

Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) announced on Tuesday that cities and municipalities will be able to commission test centers and pharmacies to carry out rapid antigen tests from March 1, 2021. The state will then bear the costs for this. The editorial network Germany had previously reported on a corresponding draft by the member of the government.

However, the advance is not entirely fixed, because Spahn's proposal will not be discussed in the cabinet until next Monday. The idea is that people who do not show any symptoms can be tested by healthcare professionals in pharmacies and other test stations. If the rapid antigen test is positive, verification by means of PCR is provided. The planned free tests are intended to relieve the health authorities and at the same time ensure more safety in Germany.

In Austria, since February 8, 2021, all residents can Have it tested free of charge in pharmacies. Furthermore, in many places there are also test roads from federal states and municipalities, which are also used free of charge.
