The private railway company Regiojet will be heading to Vienna-Schwechat Airport from June 12, 2022. Three daily train journeys are planned from Brno via Vienna main station to Austria's largest airport and back.

The Czech city of Brno is currently suboptimal to Vienna Airport. From the local airport, there is little on offer, so many travelers are currently driving to Schwechat by car. A few weeks ago the policy presented the project of direct trains between Brno and Vienna Airport. Regiojet now creates facts and records them.

For example, there will be an early train from Brno, as Brno is called in Czech, which will reach Vienna Airport around 6:00 am. This enables the majority of the so-called morning wave flights to be reached. This leads to an operational change, because until now the Prague-Vienna train has spent the night in Vienna Central Station. In the future, it will drive from Vienna Airport to Brno in the evening and from there it will start the early morning journey to Vienna Airport.

Regiojet explained to Aviation.Direct that in most cases it is an extension of the existing Prague-Vienna connection. These no longer end at Vienna Central Station, but at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. It is still unclear whether passengers can be transported between the city and the airport. If so, passengers would have another choice in addition to the City Airport Train, the Schnellbahn (including the Regional Express), the Vienna Airport Lines and the Railjet trains.

When asked about the Budapest trips, Regiojet explained that they will continue to be offered. The extension to Vienna-Schwechat Airport affects the trains coming from Prague, which previously had their terminus at Vienna Central Station. This does not apply to the early morning connection, as this will in future not start in Vienna but in Brno.

Winter athletes train to Tyrol comes in winter

Another news is that in winter 2022, Regiojet wants to offer trains for winter sports enthusiasts from Warsaw and Prague to Tyrol and Vorarlberg, respectively. The exact stops have not yet been determined, but it is currently planned that the connections from Poland and the Czech Republic should be coupled together in Breclav. In Wörgl, the trains are then divided again and then run separately to stations that are close to the ski areas in Vorarlberg and Tyrol. It is a commercial traffic, which is primarily aimed at winter sports enthusiasts who want to spend their holidays in Austria.

addressed to the planned night trains, which are expected to travel through Austria to Zagreb and Ljubljana towards the end of the year, Regiojet confirmed that corresponding train paths have already been applied for. Stopovers in Vienna and Graz are planned in the Alpine Republic. The exact time of recording is still open, but the private railway company said it would come soon.

The Czech student agency group, to which Regiojet belongs, now has an independent subsidiary in Austria that is licensed by the Ministry of Transport as a private railway company. This bears the name RegioJet AT GmbH, is based in Vienna and employs, among other things, train drivers, train managers and attendants in Austria. The background to this is that, despite the European Union, staff have to be changed at the border stations for reasons of railway law, because operations must always be carried out by a national company. In the past, Regiojet cooperated in Austria first with GKB and then with Westbahn.
