From June 16, 2020, Austria will restore the freedom to travel with a total of 31 countries, including some non-EU countries. This means that no quarantine will be necessary when entering these states. Even when you return to Austria, everything will proceed as it did in the time before Corona. There will be no passport controls in the Schengen area, normal entry formalities for non-Schengen destinations.
The list of “open countries” also includes numerous popular holiday destinations such as Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Malta, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Greece. According to Foreign Minister Schallenberg's statement, there will still be no opening up to Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Great Britain. When returning from these countries, quarantine or submission of a negative COVID-19 test is still necessary in Austria. However, the prospect was that the opening to Spain could possibly take place on July 1, 2020, because the south-western European state wants to open on that day.
However, Schallenberg continues to appeal to the population that they should treat their freedom of travel cautiously and with common sense and hopes that another major repatriation campaign will not have to be started. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regularly informs about travel warnings on the homepage.
