New partnership-based distribution of tasks for air security checks at Frankfurt Airport: Fraport will be responsible for control and implementation from 2023 - the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs will remain responsible for all issues relating to air security.
On January 1, 2023, the federal government will transfer responsibility for the organization, financing, control and implementation of the air security checks at Frankfurt Airport to Fraport AG. The takeover is regulated in a contract between Fraport AG and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs (BMI), which both sides recently signed.
“We are aware of our responsibility if we take over control of the aviation security checks at Frankfurt Airport from 2023 onwards. In this way, we can bring our experience and our competencies into the operational management of security controls in the best possible way in the interests of our passengers and the shortest possible waiting times, ”says Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG.
In addition to the organization, control and implementation of the aviation security checks, from January 1, 2023, Fraport will also be responsible for the procurement of security equipment and the calculation and collection of aviation security fees for airlines.
BMI remains the highest aviation security authority
“Of course, the Federal Police remains responsible for all security-related issues and sets guidelines that we have to adhere to. This ensures that safety remains the highest priority, ”says Pierre Dominique Prümm, Board Member Aviation and Infrastructure at Fraport AG.
Specifically, this means: The personnel of the commissioned security companies carry out the controls on behalf of Fraport AG, but in accordance with federal guidelines and under the supervision of the federal police. The employees who are deployed must meet the official requirements and qualifications.
