Thailand, which is very popular with European holidaymakers, wants to charge tourists an entry fee from April 2022. This will have to be paid for in addition to any visa costs, if required.

What is interesting is the form in which Thailand wants to collect the new entry tax. Airline and ferry companies have to collect these in the course of ticket sales and thus include them in the final price. As a result, there should be no additional expense for holidaymakers.

The amount will be around eight euros (300 baht). It has not yet been clarified how people who have already booked their trips or flights before the decision will be dealt with. More information will be communicated in the coming weeks. Thailand wants to use the income from the "entrance fee" to finance insurance for foreign vacationers and promote sustainable tourism projects.
