On May 19, the republic will finally wake up from hibernation. Along with this, there should also be considerable simplifications in terms of entry requirements.
Because with the planned opening steps, the quarantine obligation for tourists or returnees from most EU countries will also disappear. This is reported by, among others ORF. Exceptions to this are high incidence areas, whereby the Ministry of Health would like to orientate itself on the corona traffic light of the EU health agency ECDC.
From countries that are colored green or orange on the ECDC card, entry is possible without any restrictions. When entering from (light) red areas, according to plans by the Ministry of Health, a negative CoV test or proof of vaccination or recovery after an infection will be sufficient in the future.
On the other hand, travelers from dark red areas have to undergo a ten-day quarantine period with the option of being free from the fifth day. According to the current status, this would affect travelers from countries such as France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia and Lithuania. The applicable exemptions for commuters should remain in place in the future.
From the current perspective, the current quarantine obligation for popular holiday countries such as Italy, Spain and Greece as well as for the main country of origin of the guests in this country would be eliminated on May 19. Like Austria and most EU countries, these states are currently red on the ECDC traffic light. Only Finland, Iceland, Portugal and Malta are currently completely green or orange.
