The Air Côte d'Ivoire operated de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration TU-TSK, was forced to make an emergency landing in Abidjan on Saturday evening. The nose gear could not be extended due to a malfunction.
The pilots recognized the problem during the landing approach and informed air traffic control accordingly. The eight-year-old turboprop aircraft was then landed using only the main landing gear. Previous attempts to extend and lock the nose gear manually were also unsuccessful.
The TU-TSK was en route from Korhogo to Abidjan as HF45. The pilots managed the emergency landing well, because the Dash 8-400 touched down with its "nose" on the ground, but only after it had come to an almost complete standstill. It is thanks to this achievement of the pilots that the optically visible damage is extremely small. Both the authorities and the airline have confirmed that all crew members and passengers were able to exit the plane unharmed.
Air Côte d'Ivoire explains the incident: "On Saturday, July 09, 2022, an Air Côte d'Ivoire aircraft with the registration TU TSK from Korhogo and Bouaké had to take off at 19:15 at Felix Houphouët-Boigny Airport in Abidjan forced landing due to front landing gear malfunction. Thanks to the professionalism of the pilots, there were no injuries among the passengers and crew on board."
