The new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport has been in operation for four weeks and the southern runway and Terminal 5 are about to be closed. In addition, 535 jobs are now to be cut. This announced CFO Aletta von Massenbach in the Brandenburg state parliament.

At least 2021 airport employees will have to leave in 115. The other jobs are to be dropped by 2025, whereby it is emphasized that this should be done in a "socially acceptable manner". Flughafen Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH is not only recording strong declines in the aviation sector due to the corona pandemic, but also in the rental of retail and restaurant space. The vacancy rate in the new Terminal 1 is considerable.
