The international airport council ACI Europe warns: The "total collapse of essential parts of the aviation system" threatens. Almost 200 European airports could face bankruptcy in the next few months.

Regional airports in particular have been hit hard, as these are often skipped when aid distributions are made. Last month alone, passenger traffic was 75 percent below the previous year's figure - a clear downward trend. But an improvement is hardly in sight. 

Quite the opposite: the strict entry restrictions in many countries have significantly worsened traffic prospects, and free travel is de facto impossible. And that is also felt by travelers who tend to avoid taking the plane. That is why the governments are now asked. In addition to providing additional financial resources, ACI Europe demands uniform travel rules. Otherwise the last hour could strike for many airports.
