In October 2021, passenger demand stabilized. However, compared to the pre-crisis level, more than 45 percent of travelers are still missing. The traffic volume at German airports was 53,4 percent compared to 2019.

Exactly 12.665.222 passengers used the German airports last month, as the figures from the Airport Association ADV show. Compared to October last year, there are more than three times as many passengers (+213,8 percent). The cargo volume continues to grow in double digits: 471.030 tons mean +11,5 percent compared to the previous year, compared to 2019 it is +12,2 percent. At 136.236 take-offs and landings, the number of commercial flight movements is +63,4 percent above the previous year, but compared to 2019 at -34,8 percent, it is still well below the normal level.

Air transport demand at annual high

Autumn holidays and falling travel restrictions are pushing air transport demand to the high for the year. Domestic German traffic will more than double - with over 1,54 million passengers (+118,0 percent compared to 2020), demand is only 2019 percent compared to the pre-crisis year (36,9). In the case of European traffic, the volume has even tripled compared to 2020. The 9,69 million passengers mean an increase of +221.1 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to the pre-crisis level of 2019, this corresponds to almost two thirds of normal demand (-36,9 percent). Intercontinental demand is also growing - by +387,7 percent to just under 1,38 million passengers. Compared to October 2019, however, this is a decrease of -64,7 percent.
