The recovery in air transport demand is continuing, but with reduced momentum. Almost 500.000 more passengers were welcomed compared to the previous month, but the dynamic recovery process was slowed down. Compared to the pre-crisis level of 2019, the volume level was 71 percent of travelers.

A total of 17,74 million passengers used German airports - compared to July 2021, the volume increased by +79,1 percent, compared to July 2019 it is -28 percent. The cargo volume loses slightly: 417.832 tons mean -7,7 percent losses compared to the previous year, but compared to 2019 it is still +2,9 percent. At 157.759 take-offs and landings, the number of commercial flight movements was +30,4 percent above the previous year’s value; compared to 2019, almost three quarters of all commercial flights were carried out again at -25,9 percent.

European traffic was comparatively strong in July, with 78,4 percent of travelers returning compared to the pre-crisis period. For flights overseas, the figure was 74,2 percent, while domestic air traffic reached 38,2 percent of the number of passengers in July 2019.

From January to July, more than 86,47 million passengers were counted at German airports. With +232,4 percent, the airports recorded intensive growth compared to the previous year. However, the pre-crisis level in 2019 would still be 39,6 percent short, as the airport association ADV announced in a broadcast.
