A few years ago the Egyptian government decided that a new capital should be built. The excavators have been rolling since around 2015, there is already an airport, but the project is still – at least officially – without a name. Smartwings is now heading for the young city.
Around 50 kilometers from Cairo, Egypt is building its future capital out of the ground. An airport was thought of right from the start, because it has been in partial operation since at least 2019. So far, however, there have not been a particularly large number of flight connections, particularly from/to Europe. The airport is currently called Capital International Airport and is also known by the IATA code CCE. It is planned that the young airport, together with Sphinx Airport, should relieve the current capital airport of Cairo.
There are still only a few flight connections from the officially nameless city. Tour operators and airlines have not yet discovered this airport in European traffic. It also took a few years at Sphinx Airport for Condor and Wizz Air, for example, to start their services. From June 12, 2023, Capital International Airport will be connected to the Czech capital Prague on Mondays.
On behalf of the tour operator Čedok, Smartwings will set course for the future capital of Egypt once a week. So far it is the only tour operator that regularly connects the Czech Republic with this airport. Medium-haul jets of the types Boeing 737-800 and B737-Max-8 are used as aircraft.
