For a long period of time it was unclear whether Aer Lingus would again offer long-haul flights from Shannon. The UK offshoot Manchester was supposed to replace this base, but now a different decision has been made and 16 transatlantic destinations have been announced from the Irish city.

Mainly aircraft of the type Airbus A321neoLR are to be used. The "comeback" flight has been announced for March 10, 2022. This should lead to Boston as EI 135. Gradually, the long-haul network from Shannon is to be ramped up. It is currently planned that the New York JFK, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, Philadelphia, Seattle and Toronto destinations will also be reactivated in the first step.
