The newly founded IAG Aer Lingus UK is now looking for flight personnel for the new base in Manchester. From this point onwards, flights to the United States will be offered as a first step. Shannon was dismantled for the new daughter.

Because of the Brexit, Aer Lingus had to create an offshoot in the UK. Although IAG already has local flight operations with British Airways and BA Cityflyer, among others, this fact does not play a role in intra-group competition. It is also no secret that the USA flights planned by Aer Lingus UK from Manchester are intended to appeal to potential BA passengers.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has not yet issued an AOC or an operating license, but this is only a formality. The US DOT already has the necessary approval for transatlantic flights. In summary, this means that Aer Lingus UK is in a final phase and has started recruiting pilots and flight attendants. The Shannon Base, operated by Aer Lingus, recently sent the workforce to the employment office.

The unions are unlikely to like that, because their sister company British Airways has already made job cuts. Also because of the bankruptcy of Norwegian Air UK, many flight attendants and pilots are looking for jobs. For them, however, it could prove disadvantageous that Aer Lingus UK will fly with the A321LR and A330. Nevertheless, it is expected that the necessary staff can be hired quickly. Due to Brexit, a UK work permit may also be required for EU citizens.
