Aeroflot boss: "Pobeda flies with 90 percent occupancy"

The Russian Aeroflot group had to focus on routes within the Russian Federation due to the corona pandemic. There are also so-called safe travel agreements with some of the former Soviet republics. The state airline and its cheap subsidiary Pobeda now want to achieve occupancy rates of up to 99 percent again.

The largest airline in the Russian Federation is headed by Mikhail Poluboyarinov. He told Reuters that the occupancy rate at Aeroflot is around 80 percent. Pobeda even achieved 98 to 99 percent. Airlines in Europe can only dream of such values at the moment.

According to Poluboyarinov, the background is that there are no travel restrictions within Russia. For this reason, the Aeroflot and Pobeda brands have focused on domestic destinations. The manager also spoke of the fact that the network had been adapted in such a way that it largely corresponds to the one that was used in the Soviet era. In addition to destinations within the Russian Federation, CIS countries are also served within the framework of safe travel agreements. It is difficult to verify whether Aeroflot and Pobeda can actually achieve such high load factors.
