The low-cost airline Wizz Air UK is finally closing its base at Cardiff Airport, which opened in April 2022. This is the second base after Doncaster to be abandoned after a very short time.
Base Cardiff is currently on a “winter break”. It was originally announced that this would resume operations with the change to the 2022/23 summer timetable period. But that won't happen as Wizz Air UK is giving up this base. In the future, no aircraft of the pink low-coster will be stationed at this airport. Doncaster is the only one closed a few weeks after the base opening. The airport is now operational completely adjusted.
In April last year, Wizz Air UK established a base at Cardiff Airport with big announcements. However, the number of flights began to be reduced as early as August 2022 before it was decided to send this base into a "winter break". No increase was announced for the summer of 2023. But that is no longer the case.
Staff will be offered transfer to other bases maintained in the UK. Passengers who are affected by cancellations should be able to either get their money back or rebook to other UK departure points.
