A quick agreement is not in sight between the German pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit and Tuifly. The employee representatives feel they have been treated badly because of an internal circular signed by Managing Director Oliver Lackmann. In this it is claimed that the pilots are the only group of employees who do not want to make a financial contribution to the safety of the company.
At the beginning of November 2020, the Tuifly management ended the negotiations with Vereinigung Cockpit without any result. The VC said at the time that the talks had been terminated by the employer and that the company was demanding strong concessions, but should refuse to waive operational dismissals.
“We condemn TUIfly's blockade”, commented Marcel Gröls, chairman of the VC's tariff policy. “In weeks of negotiations, some of which were tough, we took steps in the right direction. Giving up now is not an option given what is at stake. Now, with the help of state money, a profound restructuring is to be pushed ahead that has nothing to do with the current crisis. We defend ourselves against this. In addition, the statement made by TUIfly management is also incorrect in terms of content, because the pilots are very much ready to make a significant and painful contribution to the future of the company. We always communicated that to the employer in the negotiations. "
The union is again calling for state and federal politics to intervene and refers to state aid that has so far been three billion euros. It is also emphasized that the VC will continue to be available for negotiations.
