The youngest offshoot of Air Asia will take off in Cambodia on May 2, 2024. Initially, Air Asia Cambodia will offer domestic flights. International routes will also be offered at a later date.

The first two Airbus A320 aircraft will be stationed at Phnom Penh Airport. From there we will go to Siem Reap and Sihanoukville from May 2, 2024. In order to make the Air Asia brand better known, they are initially offering 6.000 free tickets. The provider understands this to mean that only the taxes and fees have to be paid. The regular “starting price” is said to be $49 one-way.

Some time ago, Air Asia decided to launch a local branch in Cambodia in cooperation with a partner. For legal reasons, the majority is formally in the hands of the local partner. Otherwise you wouldn't have received any certificates. Initially, low-cost flights will be offered within the country. At a later date, the latest branch will also serve international routes to/from Cambodia.

According to its own information, Air Asia wants to ensure lower flight prices in Cambodia. It is claimed that ticket prices have so far been high due to a lack of strong competition. The product it offers is largely the same as that of its sister company. Only in the area of paid catering will there be a slightly different selection that is aimed at the local market.

Air Asia once also had branches in Japan and India. The one in the island state went under in the wake of the corona pandemic and had to file for bankruptcy. The subcontinent company was majority owned by Tata Sons and was completely sold to that company. Air Asia India has now been integrated into the Air India Group.
