In the future, Air Asia wants to significantly increase its presence in Kazakhstan. This is to be made possible by so-called fifth-freedom flights. The corresponding project was presented together with Kairbek Uskenbayev, Minister of Infrastructure of Kazakhstan.
In the first phase, Air Asia X-operated flights to Kuala Lumpur will be launched. Thai Air Asia X with Bangkok will follow shortly thereafter. Both routes will lead to Almaty and will be served four times a week for the time being. Phase two provides that Astana (formerly Nur-Sultan) should also be headed for. Three round trips per week are planned for the capital.
As part of Fifth Freedom, there will be flights to Istanbul, Paris, Frankfurt and London. A kind of "virtual hub" is to be created in the two Kazakh cities, because they also want to make transfers possible. Kazakhstan expects Air Asia activities to attract more tourists to the country.
