The charging of additional fees for the payment of flight tickets by debit or credit card as well as online banking is now expensive for Air Asia and Air Asia X. The responsible civil aviation authority, Mavcom, imposed hefty fines amounting to around 408.000 euros each. On the other hand, the two carriers went to court, but unsuccessfully. After all: The stuttering in 18 monthly installments was approved.

Malaysia does not allow additional fees to be charged for payment. The two low-cost airlines were not interested in that: they were collected from August 10 to September 11, 2019. Mavcom believes there has been a violation of the law and has imposed two hefty fines. Less surprisingly, Air Asia and Air Asia X filed an appeal.

According to the portal Malaysiakini was heard in two separate proceedings before the High Court in Kula Lumpur in September 2020. The result is that the two low cost posters and the Mavcom authority each agreed on an installment payment in the courtroom. Both carriers must pay the fine in 15 monthly installments from October 2020, 18. Up to and including March 2022, around 23.000 euros must be transferred in each case.
