Long-haul low-cost airline Air Asia X posted a loss of $ 2020 million in the fourth quarter of 43. For 2020 as a whole, the shortfall was about $ 330 million.

Before the corona pandemic, the Air Asia Group expanded aggressively. The long haul was, however, a "subsidy business", because in recent years this segment has always suffered losses. The crisis put a lot of pressure on the group of companies. This is how the operation of the Japanese branch finally discontinued. Indian participation was caught by Tata.

According to a press release, Air Asia X was able to take in around 2020 US dollars through charter in the fourth quarter of 860.772. The freight division achieved $ 954.249. There was no income whatsoever from the scheduled passenger flights. The majority of the fleet has been parked since April 2021. Only a few machines are used selectively for charter and cargo flights.

This is also reflected in sales, which - according to Air Asia X - were only 2020 million US dollars in the fourth quarter of 13,5. This is offset by maintenance costs of $ 28.338.643. The company explains that this sum includes both the maintenance costs of the parked aircraft and major checks that have been carried out on part of the fleet of 22 Airbus A330-300s.
