The Latvian airline Air Baltic is hiring again 20 flight attendants who were terminated in the wake of the corona pandemic. However, the condition for returning to work is vaccination against Covid-19.

Anyone who would like to enter into an employment relationship with Air Baltic in the future can only do so if immunization against Corona can be proven by means of vaccinations. The Latvian carrier announced that it will no longer employ unvaccinated people in the future. Whether this can be reconciled with the EU directives on anti-discrimination is another matter. In Europe, Air Baltic is the first airline to publicly announce that Covid vaccinations are a condition for new employment relationships. Delta rushed forward in the USA.

“More than a year ago, we were forced to make difficult decisions, including letting go of many of our people. We gave them various benefits, including a social package. Today we are proud that we can hire again. We are confident about our future and know that we will soon return to our growth path that will mean hundreds of new, highly qualified job opportunities, ”explains company director Martin Gauss. “All new employees whose job duties are related to constant contact with other people must be vaccinated and remain active during the pandemic. We have a 5-star safety rating for Covid-19 and by the end of May more than 70% of Air-Baltic employees will have received their first Covid-19 vaccine ”.
