Air Belgium plans to add a total of six cargo planes to the fleet in the course of 2021, thereby building up a second mainstay. The first machine is expected to arrive in March 2021 and will be stationed at Liège Airport.

Air Belgium is based in Charleroi. Of the Passenger flight operations were suspended due to the pandemic and should rest until at least March 2021. The carrier uses four-jet Airbus A340 in this segment. Air Belgium did not disclose which cargo aircraft will be purchased. The first four cargo planes to be taken over are currently in service with Qatar Airways. It is an Airbus A330-200 with the registrations A7-AFG, A7-AFH, A7-AFI and A7-AFJ.

“At such an uncertain time, this is good news for the airline. We are very excited to begin this diversification into the commercial and freight sectors that my team and I know well. This will complement our existing passenger business, which is severely affected by the current travel restrictions. This shows once again the resilience and flexibility of the development potential of our airline. Just like the steadily growing attractiveness of Liège Airport ”, says company boss Niky Terzakis.
