Air Belgium seeks buyer for cargo and passenger operations – future of employees uncertain

Air Belgium is going through a difficult period as it seeks investors to sell its cargo and passenger flight divisions after the airline ceased its own passenger service.

Five potential investors are currently negotiating, three of whom are showing strong interest, according to "L'Echo". However, none of the potential buyers wants to take over both divisions of the company, which is why a division of the company divisions seems likely.

The deadline for submitting offers has been extended to November 8, 2024. Particularly affected by the uncertain future are the airline's approximately 400 employees, including 150 flight attendants, who are threatened with economic unemployment until December. The situation for the workforce is critical, as the company had previously announced that it would find a solution to continue operations by October, but this was not kept.

Meanwhile, Air Belgium continues to operate cargo services with four aircraft for customers such as Air France and DHL. However, the only remaining passenger aircraft has already been returned to the lessor after the last flight from New York to Warsaw was operated. The increasing financial difficulties mean that many employees are already looking for other work opportunities.
