Star Alliance member Air Canada has ordered six more Airbus A321XLR long-haul aircraft. The order has so far been managed anonymously in the backlog. The Canadian carrier has now acknowledged this order.

A further 20 units will be sourced from various lessors, bringing the current A321XLR fleet to 26 aircraft. With the help of these machines one wants to further expand the traffic between Canada and Europe. The airline has not yet named any specific destinations.

“Air Canada is committed to continuing to expand its market leadership position, particularly through investments in new technologies. The acquisition of the state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR is an important element of this strategy and will drive our core priorities: improving the customer experience, advancing our environmental goals, expanding our route network and increasing our overall efficiency. This order also demonstrates that Air Canada has weathered the pandemic well and is well positioned to thrive, compete and thrive in a transformed global airline industry,” said CEO Michael Rousseau.
