The Italian Lufthansa subsidiary Air Dolomiti has received approval for flight operations from Innsbruck. This was needed because from May 2, 2022, flights to Frankfurt am Main will be up to three times a day.
The airport is known for its unique location: take-offs and landings are complicated because the airport is surrounded by mountains and the nearby Alps create atypical air currents. This requires an RNP AR certification that guarantees high standards of navigation. In February, the Austrian authority Austro Control granted approval for use at the airport, and in recent days the airline has also received approval from ENAC: Air Dolomiti has thus become the first Italian airline to receive the RNP AR certification.
“This new ENAC approval is very important and makes us proud because it confirms our strong dynamism and our will to always break new ground. We have the support and encouragement of the Lufthansa Group which, together with our enthusiasm and professionalism, allows us to face the coming months of the year with optimism as we look forward to many projects: new aircraft, new routes and new stopovers”, explains Steffen Harbarth, CEO of Air Dolomiti.
“Innsbruck Airport is known for its complex take-off and landing operations and very precise navigation requirements. For these reasons, the pilots who are to be deployed at this airport must be trained and prepared to be able to master the complexities of the manoeuvres. We are therefore particularly proud to have obtained the RNP AR certification to operate at this airport, also because it is a testament to the technical and professional preparation of our pilots,” says Commander Roberto Belgrado, Air Dolomiti Flight Operations Manager.
