The Air France subsidiary Hop, which recently faced an uncertain future, is to be continued until at least March 2026. An agreement has been reached with the trade unions which, first and foremost, will reduce the cost per flight hour.
Hop was created in 2013 from the merger of the former Air France regional subsidiaries and initially appeared under its own brand. They wanted to market the regional flights as a kind of mixture of low-cost airlines and regional airlines. The concept was unsuccessful, so the company switched to ACMI services for the parent company.
The hop fleet has been gradually reduced in size in recent years, as there was no replacement for departing turboprop aircraft. Staff were also cut, which had led to various disputes with the unions. Most recently, the future of this Air France subsidiary was called into question, because primarily one wants to concentrate on the brands Transavia and Air France.
In lengthy negotiations, the employee representatives and the management of the parent company were able to find a compromise. Hop will continue until at least 2026 and Air France will receive a purchase guarantee for the flight services. At the same time, the workers make concessions so that the cost per flight hour is reduced.
