TGV instead of Air France - this is the announcement by the French government for the granting of state aid for Air France. The French carrier is to reduce the domestic route network significantly. The state wants to increasingly rely on the railways.

The airline Air France has to accept extremely tough environmental requirements in order to receive the billions in government aid. In particular, the number of domestic flights must be drastically reduced. In return, the TGV service is to be expanded significantly by the French state railway, said Environment Minister Elisabeth Borne.

Previously, the responsible government representatives put together a seven billion euro aid package for the ailing carrier. This consists of state guarantees for bank loans and state loans and is intended to help the airline out of the crisis, as reported by sn.at. In return, Air France agreed to reduce domestic CO2 emissions by 50 percent.
